Central Bank of Egypt Denies Printing New Paper Denominations of 25 and 50 Piastres

The Central Bank of Egypt has officially denied rumors circulating across social media and various news websites claiming the issuance of newly printed paper currency in denominations of 25 piastres, 50 piastres, and one pound.

In a formal statement, financial authorities confirmed that no new production runs of these specific paper notes are currently underway. The central bank clarified that any paper banknotes of these denominations currently found in circulation originate from earlier, historical printings.

These existing paper notes continue to retain their full legal tender status. They will remain in circulation within the local market until they naturally reach the end of their monetary lifespan and are retired from use.

According to the central bank, any recent issuance of the 25, 50, and 100 piastre denominations over the last few years has been entirely in the form of metallic coins. Officials emphasized that circulating reports often misinterpret total historical paper issuance data, mistakenly identifying legacy prints still circulating alongside modern coins as newly produced paper currency.
