Egypt Invests Over $6 Billion in Telecom Infrastructure Since 2019
Egypt has directed more than $6 billion toward modernizing its telecommunications infrastructure since 2019. The significant investments aim to enhance internet connectivity nationwide, supported by massive new frequency allocations for local mobile operators.
Egypt has dedicated more than $6 billion to upgrading its telecommunications infrastructure since 2019. This extensive financial commitment is predominantly focused on developing and expanding both fixed and mobile internet services across the country, aiming to support broader digital transformation and modernization efforts.
The scale of these infrastructure investments was detailed by Raafat Hindy, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology. The updates were provided during a strategic meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, which was convened to assess the ministry's ongoing operational plans and sector advancements.
Beyond direct infrastructure spending, the Egyptian government has also facilitated major regulatory and operational expansions for local service providers. In February, new frequency bands totaling 410 MHz were successfully allocated to the four telecommunications operators currently active in the Egyptian market. This specific spectrum allocation generated an additional $3.5 billion, underscoring the rapid financial expansion and capacity building taking place within the national technology sector.
